When it comes to education, cost of living and housing and other factors, Los Alamos is the best place to live in New Mexico, according to Niche, a Pittsburgh-based website that analyzes and ranks neighborhoods and schools.
The website released its 2018 Best Places to Live list, ranking the Atomic City as the best place to live in the state. When it comes to schools and being family friendly, the city received an A+ from the site. Los Alamos received an A for housing and an A- in diversity.
In Niche’s list of the Best Public Elementary Schools, Los Alamos nabbed three spots in the top 25. For its rankings, Niche considered housing, public schools, crime, night life, family friendliness, diversity, jobs, weather, cost of living, health and outdoor activities.
Albuquerque, New Mexico’s largest city, didn’t crack the top 10. Santa Fe placed No. 13.
Los Alamos has a median household income of $105,902, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The city, with a population of almost 19,000, has a reputation of being one of the cities in the U.S. with the highest concentration of Ph.Ds. It’s home of Los Alamos National Laboratory, with an annual budget of more than $2 billion.
